A teenager in India has accidentally shot himself in the head with his father’s gun while trying to take a picture of himself.
Police reported that 15-year-old Ramandeep Singh was taken to hospital following the incident.
Manoj Kumar, a deputy police superintendent said the incident happened when the teenager was playing at home with his father licensed revolver, which he normally kept in a wardrobe.
“The boy’s father and family said that he was trying to take a selfie with his gun,” he said.
“We think that part of the blame obviously goes to the father for not keeping his loaded gun under lock and key at their home.”
Police initially reported that the schoolboy would survive his ordeal, however The Indian Express has reported that he later succumbed to his injuries.
This is not the first case of a death caused by taking selfie in India.
In Mumbai police officers have identified 16 dangerous selfie spots and asked the local council to put up signs warning people of the dangers.
Also in January, a 20-year-old fell to his death while taking a selfie from on top of the Reasi fort in Jammu and Kashmir.
In February, a teenager was run over and killed in the southern city of Chennai as he tried to take a selfie in front of an oncoming train.
