18-year-old goalkeeper, Stefan Petrovski was tragically struck by lightning on 5 April while making his way home from a training session with his club, Melaka United in Malaysia.

He had been in a stable condition in hospital and breathing with the help of a ventilator four weeks and his condition was said to be improving.

However, the teenager’s condition began to deteriorate again and he sadly passed away.

Khairi Ahmad, Melaka United’s vice president told New Straits Times that: “I was shocked when I was told of the news by the assistant to the association’s team manager Datuk Yusof Mahadi,”

“He was a dedicated goalkeeper and boasted that he wanted to be the best goalkeeper in the country. He was very jovial, a good boy, liked by his team-mates and always wanted to be better.”

Petrovski joined Melaka United in 2015 after transferring from Sydney Olympic of Australia’s National Premier League 1.
