Even though the town’s entire police force has resigned, the mayor still believes it’s residents are safe.

Current police duties are being carried out by officers from neighbouring counties by the El Paso and Teller County Sheriff departments.

Resident of Green Mountain Falls were informed of the mass resignation in a town meeting on Tuesday night.

An anonymous source told news agency Fox21 that the officers were not happy with new polices made by the newly-elected mayor, Jane Newberry.

Newberry then told the news channel that residents of the small town should still be safe, regardless of the resignations.

She said: ‘In an election year there’s always some people who choose to stay and some people who choose to go and I think that happens at every level of government.

‘He [the marshal] is pursuing other opportunities as I understand and good luck to him but that’s not to say that we are without police coverage.

‘There’s no reason anybody needs to worry. We are a small community and it’s one of our advantages is we all look out for each other.’
