A shooting at a high school prom has left three people injured venue at around 11pm local time when students began to leave the venue.
Two pupils were shot and are being treated in hospital, while it is believed that a police officer opened fire on the shooter, injuring him as well.
Although multiple gunshots were fired at the Antigo High School, in Wisconsin, USA, police are not treating it as an ‘active shooter situation.’
Police cordoned off access to the school shortly after the shooting and only allowed parents in to be reunited with their children.
A police statement said: Late Saturday night, at the Antigo High School prom, a subject showed up with a rifle on the outside of the building started shooting, two students from the prom were shot as they exited the building.
‘Officers were in the parking lot patrolling the activities and heard the shots and an officer immediately fired upon the shooter, stopping the threat.
‘The shooter is in custody and all three parties were transported to the hospital.
‘All the people within the prom were eventually escorted from the school and are safe. The victims’ families have been notified.’
According to Lieutenant Jamie Lenzer from the Antigo Fire Department reported that only one of the students shot is said to be in a critical condition.
