113 year old woman credits longevity to smoking 30 cigarettes a day – for 95 years.
Batuli Lamichhane, a 113 year old woman from Napal said that smoking 30 cigarettes day, along with living a stress-free life, have kept her alive for well over a century.
One of Napal’s oldest women who was born in 1903, started smoking at the age of 17 and has been doing so for 95 years – without skipping a single day.
She claims “There is nothing wrong with smoking”, but does warn smokers to keep away from commercially made cigarettes. She instead smokes a local produce called ‘beedi’s’, which consists of tobacco wrapped inside a tendu leaf.
Lamichhane has outlived four of her five children and even survived her roof collapsing during the Napalese earthquakes. She refuses to relocate and now lives off donations made to her at a local temple.
She believes that people living the modern way of live have too much stress and adds that “you should always be happy, then you will live a long life.”
She also mentioned that her husband did leave her over 80 years ago, which may have added to her stress-free life.
